The Brother of Jared #PowerToBecome

The brother of Jared is described as
"....a large and mighty man and highly favored of the Lord..."
Ether 1:34

we know his name is Mahonri Moriancumer (reference  [see Messenger and Advocate 1:112])

Jared and his brother were led by the Lord, in Ether 2:5 it says "...And it came to pass that the Lord did go before them, and did talk with them as he stood in a cloud, and gave directions whither they should travel."
This is the first example I see of "Receiving strength beyond their own" or in this case receiving guidance beyond their own knowledge.
Ether 2:6 "did build barges, in which they did cross many waters, being directed continually by the hand of the Lord."

Now we know the story of them building the barges and having no light in them, no air to breath. The Lord told the brother of Jared to "make a hole in the top, and also in the bottom; and when thou shalt suffer for air thou shalt unstop the hole and receive air. And if it be so that the water come in upon thee, behold, ye shall stop the hole, that ye may not perish in the flood." (Ether 2:20)
2nd example of "Receiving strength beyond their own"
Again the brother of Jared cried unto the Lord and asked for light, so that they wouldn't have to cross in darkness.
The brother of Jared collected sixteen small stones, that were white and clear. He took the to the top of mount Shelem and asked the Lord to touch the stones with His finger so that they might shine in the darkness.
The Lord touched them with His finger and was pleased with the brother of Jared's faith.

The Lord knew uncounted ways to light the ships, but he took time to define the problem, and then offered help only after Moriancumer had designed the solution.
The Lord honors the brother of Jared’s solution by touching the stones, and as he does so, the veil is removed from Moriancumer’s eyes and he sees the Lord’s finger. Astonished, he asks the Lord to show himself unto him. The Lord not only grants that request but also shows him a vision of the full panorama of the world’s history. So marvelous were the things shown to the brother of Jared that the record of it is hidden from us until we are prepared to receive it.
(For whole story see Ether 1-3)

The whole story is a huge example to me, so long as I have continual faith that when I ask the Lord will give me what I need, like Nephi said "the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them" The Lord will help me, he will prepare a way for me. He will prepare the way for me to become a Sister Missionary for His church, He will guide me to where I need to go, the spirit will be with me to tell me what to say.

General Conference! Here I learn!

So twice a year something amazing happens.......
Can you guess it??
No!?

Well you got it, General Conference!! (Did I give it away?)

Well this year Elder Bednar has this amazing challenge that I think we should rise up and accept!

Get ready for General Conference by accepting Elder David A Bednar's challenge—also a great FHE idea!

"Get an inexpensive copy of the Book of Mormon and look for examples of people or individuals who received strength beyond their own, & record what you learn. The Spirit will inspire you."

*If you take the challenge, share it and also share your results and use #powertobecome on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and even Pinterest!

See all those meds I have to take :-O *sigh*
I love this! I know it says young adults, but I think everyone, young and old, should do this!
Since I just had a operation I'm in bed all day so this is a perfect thing to do while I'm watching my collection
of Audrey Hepburn movies and M.A.S.H.

I know a lovely sight to see in the morning :-P

So even though I feel in the dumps right now, this is always a good way to perk my spirits up.

I just want to share that I know that whoever takes up this challenge will be blessed for it. The spirit will INSPIRE you! Truly. Make time, even if its just a few minutes everyday. You will be better for it, you will receive strength through it, it will motivate you, and through it, people will see the light that shines through you. So be that beacon of light on a hill, don't cover or hide it. Don't be scared of the world. Stand up for something you believe and be a servant of God! I believe in you, and He believes in you!
